Strong sales of the new Harry Potter video game enabled Electronics Arts, the world's leading video game maker, to report better-than- expected fiscal first-quarter results yesterday.

Another Positive Review For PoA Game

- [ Jasen @ 01:02 PM . GMT . Gaming ]

Welcome, students, to another extraordinary year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry - as presented by interactive rendition licence-holders EA, in the manner to which all who have played an EA tie-in will now be accustomed. Solid, I believe is the word that best describes this latest effort - linked heavily with the film on release since early June, and whilst you won't be getting many surprises here, there will be mercifully few glaring let-downs either.

IGN Reviews PC Version of PoA Game

- [ Jasen @ 05:29 PM . GMT . Gaming ]

Before launching into the review, I should mention that I haven't yet seen the movie. Those around the office who have seen the film tell me that some of the main plot elements are present here but the actual encounters and gameplay challenges are almost entirely unconnected with the events of the film. So while the plot of the game does indeed involve an escaped prisoner who seems to have it in for Harry, and while the malevolent and suspicious Dementors are still hunting him down, the salamander-freezing, toothed-book shooting, ice sliding, rabbit-statue animating gameplay is entirely the game's invention.

Review of PlayStation 2 PoA Game

- [ Jasen @ 02:29 PM . GMT . Gaming ]

The EyeToy games are a fun treat (even if they are just Potterized versions of wave-your-hands-in-the-air-like-you-just-don’t-care stuff gamers have already seen), and you can definitely see that the designers tried to “age up” the proceedings with a fair amount of success—for all its flaws, this is definitely a more engaging game than previous Potter platters. Azkaban is definitely a step in the right direction; here’s hoping the development team can take even bigger steps next time.
