UPDATE: HBP Release Date
- [ Nick @ 06:00 PM . GMT . Books: Year 6 ]
Mugglenet has received numerous tips from bookstores that the Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince release date will be announced in two months (January 2005). Keep in mind that this is still all speculation, and the release date will be announced first on JK Rowling's site.
Thanks to Mugglenet.
A Character To Die In Book 6!
- [ Jasen @ 06:21 PM . GMT . Books: Year 6 ]
New York Post reportS:
LONDON — Someone's going to die in the next Harry Potter book, author J.K. Rowling said yesterday — but readers won't know who until the next volume in the series about the young wizard hits the shelves.
Asked on her official Web site whether she planned to kill off any more characters, Rowling replied, "Yes, sorry." But she refused to identify that character.
"Harry Potter and The Half-Blood Prince" is due to be published next year.
Potter himself is safe, at least for now. Rowling has previously said her teenage hero will survive until the seventh and final book in the series, but has refused to say whether he will reach adulthood.
"You have to wait and see whether he survives to be a grown-up," Rowling said in August.
Hagrid Not The Half-Blood Prince?
- [ M17 @ 05:59 PM . GMT . Books: Year 6 ]
Two readers at our affiliate MuggleNet separately wrote in to say that JK Rowling personally told them that Hagrid is not the Half-Blood Prince. Obviously, this is to be regarded as still a rumor.
You can discuss this rumor in our Discussion Forums.
Rowling Quoted in TIME Magazine
- [ M17 @ 09:49 AM . GMT . Books: Year 6, J.K. Rowling ]
Not anything new, but in TIME Magazine's Verbatim section, JK Rowling is quoted from her website about questions that should be asked regarding Half-Blood Prince. Thanks very much to iHP Reader Teresa.

HBP Clues, Straight from JKR!
- [ Deb @ 07:17 AM . GMT . Books: Year 6, J.K. Rowling ]
JKR has been dropping clues and answering questions at the Edinburgh Children's Book Festival!
She did not give much away about book six, which will be called Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, but she said a lot of questions will be answered in it.
She also revealed there were two key questions about the whole plot that she had never been asked.
The first is Why didn't Voldemort die when he tried to kill Harry? JK said that in the end of book four, Voldemort had said he had taken various steps against dying, but we should be wondering exactly what he did.
Dumbledore knows more!
The second question is Why didn't Dumbledore try to kill Voldemort in that scene at the end of book five?
Dumbledore gave a kind of reason to Voldemort but it's not the real answer, and that Dumbledore knows something more.
JK said if we are wondering about the overall plot, we should be concentrating on those two questions.
She also tantalisingly answered a question about Aunt Petunia. When asked, JK said no, Petunia is not a squib, as she is muggle-born, but...... and left the sentence hanging.
She said we will find out a bit more about her in the other books and that there's more to Petunia than meets the eye!
She also revealed some more general snippets of information, including:
Abeforth Dumbledore is the barman in the Hogs Head
Dumbledore's patronus is a phoenix
Grawp will be more controllable in the sixth book
We will see a bit more of Rita Skeeter
There will be a new character called McLagan
Harry does NOT have a godmother
Check out the discussion thread to share your thoughts!
Thanks to gotpotter.net and shruti_11 from ihp for the scoop!

IMDB Lists Half Blood Prince Movie
- [ iruhkoi @ 07:55 AM . GMT . Books: Year 6 ]
Although the book hasn't been released yet and there is no known release date, the Internet Movie Database (IMDB) has listed "Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince" as an upcoming movie slated for a 2008 release. Obviously an estimation, but at least they're confident the book will be out before then!

Stephen Fry Worried About Book 6
- [ iruhkoi @ 07:38 AM . GMT . Books: Year 6 ]
Actor and narrator of the British versions of the Potter books Stephen Fry is "anxious JK Rowling's next Harry Potter book will be too long for him to narrate."
Ireland On-Line reports that Fry "isn't interested in the new book's plot, but he's dreading the amount of time it will take for him to record, if it's as "meaty" as the author has suggested."
"I would have my legs cut off if I gave anything away. But I think we can probably say that this next one is probably not going to be longer than the Order of the phoenix - 29 hours of listening if you buy the tapes or CDs. That's a lot of studio time reading!"
In fact, whenever I see Jo Rowling, I've just become completely banal and vulgar - I'm not at all interested. I don't care what the story is, who lives, who dies, just 'How long is it going to be?"

Dahlia points us to this article from noinvite.com, which has up a curious tidbit, saying that fans can expect to see the sixth book within 4-5 months. This is pure rumor for right now, so take it with a grain of salt.

Book 6 Title Hoaxer Interview
- [ @ 09:49 AM . GMT . Books: Year 6 ]
In an interview with HPANA, the 19 year old college student responsible for the international hoax stating that the book 6 title is Harry Potter Pillar of Storgé offers his apologies to Harry Potter fans around the world and to J.K. Rowling herself. In addition, the prankster explains his intentions of his hoax, how he accomplished his feat, and what he expected to occur.
With the title Harry Potter Pillar of Storgé proven false, J.K. Rowling released the offical title of book 6 as Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince on her website, http://www.jkrowling.co.uk/
An excerpt from the interview:
Do you have any official connection to JKR, Warner Bros., or the book publishers?
No, I have no connection to them whatsoever.
What made you think of doing this, and specifically, the timing of it?
I had recently finished a re-reading of Order of the Phoenix and it got me excited about the Harry Potter series again. As a result of that excitement, I stumbled upon JKR's website for the first time and was fascinated by the unopenable door. I also thought it was great that she was dispelling some of the rumors about the series. Somehow I put two and two together and the hoax clicked in my mind.
The timing of the event was never planned; it was simple dumb luck on my part that I released the hoax at the start of a weekend so that it [became] more effective.
How did you do it?
A hobby of mine is computer graphics/video editing, so I knew I could produce a realistic video. I realized that this was exactly what I needed to make the hoax believable.
I used two programs: Adobe Photoshop and Adobe After Effects. In Photoshop I edited and manipulated pictures from JKR's site, and in After Effects I animated them into the finished video. I did not use [Macromedia] Flash at all. The blue bars (see image) at the bottom and top are a result of me changing the aspect ratio of the video without distorting it so that I could compress it into an MPEG file. I whipped the video up in about two hours.
As far as the "message" was concerned, I just tried to mimic JKR's style as much as possible. I came up with the title Pillar of Storgé, trying to formulate something with a hidden meaning that people would be able to figure out. It's an ugly title, but I'm quite fond of it.
- [ Deb @ 07:24 AM . GMT . Books: Year 6 ]
JKR has verified that HP and the Half Blood Prince is the name of 6. But, the Half Blood Prince is neither Harry or Voldemort! Whoa! That's huge! Read more in the News section of her site.
A little excerpt from her site:
I was delighted to see that a hard core of super-bright fans knew that the real title was once, in the long distant past, a possibility for 'Chamber of Secrets', and from that deduced that it was genuine. Certain crucial pieces of information in book six were originally planned for 'Chamber of Secrets', but very early on (first draft of Chamber) I realised that this information's proper home was book six. I have said before now that 'Chamber' holds some very important clues to the ultimate end of the series. Not as many as six, obviously, but there is a link.
Edit by Jasen: So it's not Harry or Voldemort? I wonder who could it be...?
UPDATE: Behind The Door
- [ Jasen @ 01:31 PM . GMT . Books: Year 6, J.K. Rowling ]
iHP reader Crystal chimes in with a new interesting tidbit on Rowling's official site:
Hello once again.
If you go to the room with the door, there is no longer a "Do not disturb" sign. You can now open the door (and you come to a brick wall). Within in the wall there are 5 bricks which you can tap. If you tap them in the correct order, they will activate the wall, behind which, could be a possible title to book 6.
5 bricks = 120 possible combinations!
Thought you might want to know.
Now remember, there may not even be anything behind the door, much less the Book 6 title. But hey, it never hurts to try.
UPDATE: HUGE, huge kudos goes out to iHP forum member, Stella, who managed to break through the door already, and...oh my, what's behind it is indeed a surprise. Here's how she did it:
Once you're at JKRowling.com, go to the room that has the door in it (which previously featured a "Do Not Disturb" sign on it). Open it. Then you'll see a brickwall, which you'll use to get through to the next side. You'll need to click on five different bricks, here's how:
1. The brick that is on the upper right hand side. It's the only pushable one in it's section.
2. There are two bricks in the lower section that are pushable, push the one that is higher than the other.
3. Number 3 is on the left hand side, the lowest of the two located there that can be pushed.
4. The one somewhere below number 2.
5. The one located somewhere above 3.
Once you're past this...(DO NOT PROCEED if you don't wish to be spoiled!)
Click on the fan and some papers will blow around, until one comes up close and begins to type out:
Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince
This also happens to be one of Book 2's original titles before Rowling decided to rename it.
Now, please remember everyone, this is may not even be the actual title. It seems awfully strange that J.K. Rowling would make an announcement this big after a huge hoax that happened over the weekend. Take this with a grain of salt, but even so, it is interesting that this time, the announcement was definitely made on her own site. Maybe she decided to be nice and tell us after that fan hoax? Or maybe, she's just playing with us to see if we'll fall for this one too?
Thanks once again to Stella, and all our readers who wrote in!
You saw it here first.
What's your take on all this? Do you think it's real? Or is JKR just messing with us? Discuss all about it in the thread!
HOT NEWS: Book 6 Title Released?
- [ iruhkoi @ 11:57 PM . GMT . Books: Year 6 ]
NOTE: THIS IS UNCONFIRMED. However, a number of credible sites are reporting this information and this post has been made in the interest of keeping iharrypotter.net visitors up to speed.
It was reported that an unidentified visitor went to JK Rowling's official website and attempted to enter the door that "can't open." Although it has been known that some have been able to "hack" through the door, up until now the information said to contain within it has been largely meaningless. New reports indicate that the following text was seen, intended to be released on July 1, 2004, containing the title of Book 6 allegedly from JK Rowling herself. There are videos of the site as well as screenshots available.
TO CONTINUE, CLICK "MORE..."- NOTE: THE POSSIBLE TITLE FOR BOOK 6 WILL FOLLOW. IF YOU DO NOT WISH TO READ THIS INFORMATION, DO NOT CLICK "MORE..." AGAIN, THIS IS STILL UNCONFIRMED!
THE FOLLOWING TEXT WAS REPORTED TO BE FOUND INSIDE THE DOOR IN JKROWLING.COM:
Erm… it is perhaps time for me to reveal the title of Book 6! I am nearing completion of the first draft and have definitely decided upon a title. I had numerous possibilities in mind, but as I wrote, I realized that only one did the book justice.
The more clever Potter fans may recognize that the title relates directly to both 'Order of the Phoenix' and 'Chamber of Secrets.' I will be highly amused if one of you can guess exactly what's going on!
On a side note, the length of the book is growing so fast, I could swear Filius has put anEngorgement Charm on it; an editor's nightmare! I promised myself not to exceed the length of 'Order of the Phoenix,' but every day that passes
makes that undertaking more difficult. Incidentally, I have much more work ahead.
Alas, the time has come! Here is the reward for you lot that so diligently figured out all the puzzles on the site. If you scroll down to the bottom of this page, I will reveal to you the title of Book 6!
The title of Book 6 is: Harry Potter and the Pillar of Storgé.
Mugglenet has posted the video showing this information here.
Obviously, since the note is dated July 1, we shall see whether or not JKRowling.com does update the door with the above information, at which point the title will be confirmed.
Discuss this in the official thread at iharrypotter.net forums!

A [Semi-]Update On Book 6...
- [ M17 @ 07:20 PM . GMT . Books: Year 6 ]
BUT... it's not anything new. Really. Parade Magazine has a section in which readers can ask questions. In Sunday's edition, a reader asks about the status of HP Book 6. The update?
Rowling says she has no idea when she'll finish her as-yet-untitled sixth installment.
JKR Updates Book 6!
- [ Scott @ 10:13 AM . GMT . Books: Year 6 ]
Thanks to Mugglenet for the following question by an anonymous reporter and Jo's answer at the Premiere of Prisoner of Azkaban:
Reporter: "So when's the next book coming out?"
J.K. Rowling: "Ohh, not too long... but I don't like to give deadlines because then I'll miss it and everyone will get upset."
I'm crossing my fingers, as I'm sure the rest of you are that it's sometime in the next year.
